The Art of Appreciation

Everything Everywhere All at Once

I love good art. Raw, honest human emotion packaged in a super creative, interesting medium. Music or movies can be compelling and draw you in. Bypass the mind, straight to the heart. Creating a human connection and building a sort of community.

“Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I will be.”

“The Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands”

The film “Everything, Everywhere all at once” took all the awards in 2023. And rightfully so, I love this movie. I think it captures the fast paced, frantic, high pressure society we live in now. It isn’t so much the fact that we have more on our plates, its the fact that we have more coming at us in every direction it is hard to deal with mentally. Which is why mental health is such an issue now.

The multiple story lines between the husband and wife, mother and daughter, family ambition, all of it coming at you in multiple universes, done so well that it isn’t too hard to follow. Frantic and amazing and spot on to where we are today trying to balance all the relationships in our lives.

All this to say, I think I’m in a place in my life now where I am learning the Art of Appreciation. I’d like to think I’ve reached a point in my life where I can start to really appreciate what other artists are doing. Learn from them and listen. I don’t always have to be the one trying to think up original content. There is certainly a place for those who listen, watch, buy in and just “get it”. There needs to be way more of that in our world. Buy in, join a community. Join the conversation. Open our eyes to the beauty that is already out there. Not always trying with endless anguish to create something new that will make us stand out in an oversaturated world. Learn to appreciate. Learn to Love.
